We have officially completed the first week of our bible study by author Jennifer Rothschild. For anyone who was not able to be with us this last week, we each brought the oldest item from our closets and had a little show and tell. We then answered these 2 questions...
1. Why is this item still in my closet
2. What might that item say about me.
We all had a tendency to hang on to things for much the same reasons... for good or bad, better or worse, useful or useless, each item carried with it some piece of our past that we just can't seem to let go.
We do much the same with our "spiritual" closets. We tuck away pieces of our past experiences that we just cant seem to let go.
So...
What are you hanging on to?
Could it be a grudge? Unforgiveness? Bitterness? Shame? Jealousy? Hatred? Fear? Insecurity?
No matter how far back in the closet we may try to stuff these, they eventually find their way into our wardrobe and we wear them just like a bad habit. (or a bad wig if you saw my show and tell :))
All of these would earn any of us top priority on the biblical version of What Not to Wear.
God, however, offers us a better wardrobe solution. And, it doesn't cost a dime. Only our willingness to surrender our "closets" to him.
Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Col 3:12
This coming week, we will take a look at the roll our "closets" play in our relationships and in our productiveness.
Come join us next Sunday at 5pm. It's still not too late, even if you were unable to join us the past 2 weeks. Shoot me an email and I will get a book to you asap! My email is tstanley@arkwest.com.
See you soon,
Tonya
PS. For week 2: Dont forget to bring one item from your closet that doesn't belong there.
